Vickrum Digwa and Family Plead Not Guilty to Weapons Charges

Vickrum Digwa, his father Moga Singh, and his brother Gurpreet Digwa have pleaded not guilty to multiple weapons charges during a hearing at Southampton Magistrates’ Court. The proceedings relate to a separate criminal case involving weapons allegedly discovered during police searches following the investigation into the murder of 18-year-old Henry Nowak.

Digwa, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in June after being convicted of Henry Nowak’s murder, appeared before the court via video link from prison. His father and brother attended the hearing in person. The latest case concerns alleged possession of prohibited and offensive weapons and is independent of the murder conviction.

Vickrum Digwa Weapons Charges Heard in Court

The Vickrum Digwa Weapons Charges case centres on allegations that a number of offensive and prohibited weapons were found during searches conducted by police.

According to prosecutors, Vickrum Digwa faces multiple counts of possessing offensive weapons in a private place. Moga Singh has been charged with similar offences. Gurpreet Digwa faces the same allegations as well as additional charges, including possession of offensive weapons in a public place and possession of a prohibited weapon. All three defendants entered not guilty pleas.

Court documents referenced a range of seized items, including swords, machetes, knives, knuckledusters, an extendable baton and other weapons allegedly recovered during the investigation.

Charges Are Separate From Henry Nowak Murder Case

The latest prosecution is legally separate from the murder case in which Vickrum Digwa was convicted of killing university student Henry Nowak in Southampton in December 2025.

Earlier this year, Digwa was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years after a jury found him guilty of murder. He has since sought permission to appeal both his conviction and sentence.

The current weapons proceedings concern alleged offences linked to items recovered during police searches and do not revisit the facts of the murder trial.

Court Proceedings Continue

During Thursday’s hearing, District Judge Henry Gordon also considered an amended charge relating to additional weapons. The court requested clarification from prosecutors before requiring the defendants to enter pleas on that allegation.

The court scheduled a trial for September 2027, with a case management hearing expected before the trial begins. Until the proceedings conclude, the allegations remain subject to judicial determination.

Legal Principle of Presumption of Innocence

Under UK law, individuals charged with criminal offences are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

The not guilty pleas entered by Vickrum Digwa, Moga Singh, and Gurpreet Digwa mean prosecutors must present evidence to support the allegations during future court proceedings. The defendants will have the opportunity to challenge that evidence before any verdict is reached.

Background

The Henry Nowak case attracted widespread public attention after body-camera footage released following the trial prompted debate over policing and knife crime in the UK.

Following Digwa’s conviction, police searches at the family home resulted in separate investigations into alleged weapons offences, leading to the charges now before Southampton Magistrates’ Court.

What Happens Next?

The case will now proceed through the UK criminal justice system. Prosecutors are expected to disclose evidence ahead of trial, while defence lawyers will prepare their case.

A case management hearing will take place before the full trial begins in 2027. Until then, the three defendants remain subject to the ongoing criminal proceedings.

Conclusion

Vickrum Digwa, his father Moga Singh, and his brother Gurpreet Digwa have all pleaded not guilty to multiple weapons charges in a separate legal case before Southampton Magistrates’ Court. The proceedings are distinct from Digwa’s murder conviction and will now move toward trial, where the allegations will be tested before the court.
